Work had a minor catastrophe today which ate up my whole day (technically it started yesterday, but we thought it was a different problem then), and then we had our Bible Study tonight, so it’s been a busy day. I don’t have much left, so here’s some random thoughts from the day:
-Mr Dell Support guy, I don’t think you knew what you were getting into when you decided that you weren’t going to listen to me and run through your script anyway. If stubbornness and patience were Olympic events, I’d have two gold medals. You really should have saved us both those two hours and set up the technician visit at the beginning. I apologize for not making that more clear at the beginning.
-Once we got that problem out of the way, however, and I got the information I needed, I can’t complain about the rest of Dell’s service (even if I did have to go a bit over someone’s head, sorry again Dell support guy, you really think they’d have a file on me by now).
-It pays to have been on campus so long that you’ve developed good relationships with key people, and I’m very grateful for the person who took an hour out of their day to help me clear some things up even though they don’t work for Admissions and Records.
-At one point I had Dell on the line while looking at my email to get an extension and later a password without ending or pausing the call. I love my phone.
-Of course the servers break while our server guy is on the way back from his month long pilgrimage to France with his family (although I’m surprised we’ve done so well for the past two months without him, this was our first major hiccup).
-Our documentation (which would have cut five or six hours out of this process) for the drives that I needed were on the drives that failed. Going to have to re-evaluate that plan.
-Finally, I don’t know how three drives in the same row of the SAN all get ejected by a quarter of an inch, but that was a pain in the but to figure out that was the problem that was masking one of them being a bad drive.
