One of the interesting things about working at an academic institution is seeing the ebb and flow of the campus. Tomorrow begins a new semester, so it will be a flood of activity and students (although high tide will be on Tuesday, as most students still prefer a Tuesday-Thursday class schedule even though Monday-Wednesday-Friday was recently converted to just Monday-Wednesday, with Friday getting the once a week classes like the one I teach). It can be particularly jarring since during the breaks, the campus can be quite quiet, particularly the winter break we just enjoyed, which features a very small selection of classes and, as such, mostly just staff on campus.
But tomorrow (soon to be today) everyone comes back with a vengeance, so much so that parking can be a real pain. We have to leave earlier the first two weeks of classes than the rest of the semester just to accommodate the extra volume. I need to get some extra sleep before then, so here you have a short blog post on why this blog post is so short.
